Coverage without the guesswork
Look beyond
the monthly price.
A good comparison starts with the care you use and the costs you may pay. Here are the questions to bring to a licensed agent.
1. What will I pay over the year?
Your premium is the amount you pay for the policy, usually monthly. A deductible is an amount you may need to pay for certain covered services before the plan pays. Copays and coinsurance are additional ways you share costs. Compare the annual premium and potential out-of-pocket costs, not the premium alone.
2. Are my doctors and prescriptions included?
Check the current provider directory for the specific plan and confirm participation with the provider. Review the plan’s prescription formulary, coverage tiers and any prior-authorization requirements. An insurer name by itself does not identify a network or benefit.
3. Marketplace or off-Marketplace?
Marketplace plans may offer premium tax credits or other savings if you qualify. Off-Marketplace ACA-compliant plans provide comprehensive coverage outside the Marketplace, but Marketplace tax credits are not available for those purchases. An agent can help you understand both routes.
4. When can coverage begin?
Individual ACA coverage generally follows Open Enrollment windows or an applicable Special Enrollment Period. A move, loss of qualifying coverage or another life event may affect your options. The timing and required evidence depend on the circumstances.
5. What should I bring to a quote conversation?
Be ready to confirm your ZIP and county, household members seeking coverage, ages, expected household income if seeking Marketplace savings, desired doctors and prescriptions, and when you need coverage. You do not need to enter medical history in this website’s initial form.
